Here are a couple of video links from my first ever autox last october. really crappy tires too, some 185/75-14 goodyear viva's i had from wal-mart for 34 bucks a piece.. This year I think I'll do much better. And I got 3rd in my class, too! (ok, there were only 3 of us) ..but stilll!! i improved my time by 8.6 seconds between my 1st run and my 4th run! Second run of the day 7MB, windows .wmv format (sorry) Last run of the day 15MB, windows .wmv format again, but better sound. Just a little fun after installing my new struts/springs another .wmv file, only 4MB this time. --sarge

good stuff man! i especially like the extended slalom with the gate, cool course design. noticed 2 things 1) BOTH hands on the wheel you gotta spinner knob on there!?!?! 2) BOTH eyes on the course....now unless thats a really bad case of looking ahead, in the second video you glance a full 90degrees before a corner....<gasp> of course, for your first time you did VERY well...i have seen worse even after a few months...i am still learning myself, 2nd year now, but it's easy for me to sit here and type, harder to get in and drive it...

Yep, I know the both hands thing for sure.. I think I was probably not sure if I wanted to shift down or not, so I was being stupid. Hard habit to break though.
I think the clance may have been at a corner worker who was moving around near the course or something, I don't remember, but yeah, that's some good advice, thanks!
This year I'm running in a prepared class instead of stock, with a Triumph Spitfire, an MG MGB, a VW Golf, and a Puma GT in my class... the first half of the 1st event this year, I actually had better times.. but then my 2nd half kinda stunk.
My (potentially) best run was about to happen, when some guy sticks his head in the window asking about my disk brakes, then the starter (who's son in the Spitfire I was beating until then) gave me all sorts of crap before letting me go, and then really rushed me when he finally let me.. needless to say, it completely threw off my concentration and ruined my mojo for the run.... BUT I still came within .041 seconds of the MG, and .440 seconds of the MG and Spitfire, respectively. The Golf trounced me good with a 1.277 second lead.
But, I've got my secret weapon in the mail, and It's time to put it on this week.. stainless steel brake and clutch lines, and some Dot5 brake fluid. Probably some EBC or Hawk pads, too. This next race is a high-speed autocross at BlackHawk Farms Raceway, by South Beloit, IL... should be pretty fun! It's a road-race course, that we get to do timed runs on, I can't wait!
